Session #: 338-SU324
Presenter(s): Dennis Matthies Session Length: 1 hr. 15 min. Event: 2008 ASTD International Conference & Expo Date: June 1-4, 2008
Our minds are being choked by cognitive clutter. The daily bombardment includes emails that ramble, meetings filled with non-essential information, and presentations that try to say everything, all at once. This wastes time and energy, and results in decisions that are half-baked. Getting to the heart of the matter has become a fundamental skill for knowledge workers. Actually, this isn't one skill; it's two. First, there's Precision Questioning, which means knowing how to ask questions at the level of analysis that our work requires. Second, there's Precision Answering, which means knowing how to give answers that are crisp, credible, and directly to the point. When Precision Questioning is met with Precision Answering, we communicate better; our meetings become more efficient; and we reach a higher level of critical thinking. In this session you'll learn to do both.
