Session #: 338-M103
Presenter(s): William Byham Session Length: 1 hr. 15 min. Event: 2008 ASTD International Conference & Expo Date: June 1-4, 2008
More than half of turnover that happens in employees' first two years happens in the first two months—and most of the rest of the people who leave in the first two years decide to begin looking for a new job in the first two months. Early turnover is increasing leaving organizations with replacement costs, lost opportunities, and wasted training expenditures. The speaker, an expert in the learning and development field, will address what makes the first 60 days so critical and the manager and training department's roles in minimizing new hires' time to performance and therefore minimizing their need and desire to find a new job. Among the best practices discussed, he'll address how organizations can use tests to identify employees who will have problems in the early days, how sharing information gained in the selection process with the new employees can immediately engage them, the importance of early training experiences, and what should and should not be included in a company's orientation programs.
