Session #: 338-M115
Presenter(s): Julie Nielsen Session Length: 1 hr. 15 min. Event: 2008 ASTD International Conference & Expo Date: June 1-4, 2008
Attend this session to expand your view of leadership development and learn how to simplify the process of linking leadership development to organizational effectiveness. Using ASTD and its leadership system as a case study, the speakers will reveal how what started as targeted management coaching evolved into a leadership development program. As ASTD and its consultant looked at how to concretely link its leadership development efforts to organizational performance, it eventually became a leadership system--a system uses traditional components, but with a twist: leadership performance planning that links to a Coaching Action Plan (CAP), and coaching that maintains its traditional values but wraps in accountability and measurable targets. The speakers will incorporate and improve tools that may already be in place to enhance your own leadership programs. They will conduct an overview of the entire system, but will focus on three core components and how they were modified to create the system. These core components include leadership performance planning, development planning, and BizCoaching. Two mini-interviews will help develop the executive case for the program, and provide a specific example of an ASTD leader's personal experience. You will leave the session with tools that can be modified for later use.
