Session #: 339-SU101
Presenter(s): Dana Robinson; Jessica Connolly Session Length: 1 hr. 15 min. Event: 2009 ASTD International Conference & Expo Date: May 31-June 3, 2009
The session will be co-presented by an individual who has consulted to numerous organizations which have made a transition to a performance consulting approach (Dana Robinson) and someone who is a practitioner and has been a primary leader in implementing this approach into a specific function (Jessica Connolly). The session will combine lecturette with short "buzz" sessions in which participants are asked to respond to questions; responses will then be discussed as a larger group. A proposed agenda is as follows: Situation: Genentech's PROP Learning and Development organization—current state and desired state overview. Key for Transition to a Performance Consulting Approach: Clarify difference between a learning and a performance consulting approach. This will be done with two buzz sessions as well as lecturette. Lessons Learned at Genentech Regarding: 1. Work Process: There will be a buzz session in which participants are asked to compare their performance consulting process to the one used at Genentech. 2. Organization Structure and Role Assignments: Will include content of what was done and lessons learned, including requirements for role of "Client Manager." 3. Capability and Work Environment Support: A list of competencies needed by those who perform as Client Managers will be provided. The work environment support that is needed will be overviewed. Participants will engage in a final buzz session in which they identify the work environment challenges within their organization to working in support of a performance consulting approach. Participants will leave with tools that include: * List of competencies for role of "performance consultant." * Role profile for a "performance consultant." * Checklist of items to consider when designing a change such as the one described in this session.
