This presentation will employ Virtual Experience Immersive Learning Software (VEILS®) as an example of a new technology being used to create programs which combine the cognitive and affective learning domains. Each of these VEILS programs, created as solutions to specific learning problems by organizations and institutions. These include CODiE Award winner for Best Workforce Training Solution, Outside the Wire; 2006 National Training and Simulation Association (NTSA) / IITSEC Serious Games Showcase and Challenge Winner Gator Six and Generation RX, which received the Editor's Choice Award from Children's Technology Review. From the identification of the problem, to the choice of VEILS as the best solution, the presentation will accurately examine the benefits of combining affective and cognitive learning in instruction by actively engaging the audience and inviting participation. The non-linear programs, which adapt to the learners choices, will dictate the exact direction of the presentation and guarantee an interactive discussion. To run a VEILS demonstration the presenter will need a computer with a DVD-ROM drive player or Sharon can connect her own computer to the projector. This screen should be projected for all audience members to see. Some power point may be used to present limited graphs, diagrams, and text that is not included in the demonstrations but is relevant to the discussion. This will also be used to illustrate some of the obstacles presented by such traditional learning models.
