Most people do not see manipulation creeping into their normal conversations—it's the invisible item on the agenda. By learning to recognize manipulation and changing our conversations, we can create powerful and life-changing results. Authentic conversations can energize and engage people in the workforce and build honest and meaningful relationships on and off the job. Based on the popular book Authentic Conversations: Moving from Manipulation to Truth and Commitment (Berrett-Koehler, 2008), this session will help you create relationships you can believe in and develop authentic cultures of accountability. Using simple yet powerful techniques of listening and questioning, you will learn how to move from relationships that hide facts, sugarcoat reality, and claim helplessness (the parent-child relationship), to create authentic adult relationships based on honesty and trust.
