SESSION ABSTRACT: Human Performance Improvement (HPI) models consistently cite incentives and motivation as key influences on human performance outcomes. However, most HPI professionals are relatively uninformed about the precise relationship between incentives, motivation and workplace performance. Most organizations (84%) select incentive systems without a data-based rationale for their choices. This session reports on a comprehensive research study that breaks new ground. It offers data, a model and guidelines on selecting and implementing incentive systems to achieve desired human performance results. The session provides a comprehensive handout that guides the participant and includes a Performance Improvement by Incentives Model, guidelines for application and a sample case. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Explore the effects of tangible incentives on workplace performance. Recognize the relationship between incentives, motivation and workplace performance. Create an incentive system using research guidelines.
