SESSION ABSTRACT: Most professionals say that work-life balance is a top priority, but few have cracked the code on how to achieve it. Most people attempt to fit everything in by juggling, simultaneously pursuing all of the activities that make a life. They hope to achieve balance by running faster, working harder, and cramming more into their lives. This leads to a rich and multi-faceted life, but it?s also exhausting. A long-term lack of balance leads to burn out, reduced creativity, and ultimately higher turnover?especially among your top talent. This session will explore the findings of a three-year study on avoiding burn out, which found five sustainable alternatives to juggling. This research provides a framework for individuals, their managers, and their organizations to balance in ways that enhance individual satisfaction and productivity, both on and off the job. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: ?Discover the fundamental forces that make work-life balance a strategic issue for organizations. Appreciate why ?juggling? rarely leads to work-life balance. Apply the five alternative work-life strategies to your own situations. Coach individuals to make choices that will lead to greater satisfaction and productivity. Articulate ways organizations can support individuals in the use of these alternative work-life balance strategies. Use Qualcomm?s experience and results in your organization.
