SESSION ABSTRACT: At a time when the need for leadership is greater than ever, it turns out that the standard methods for assessing leaders and pinpointing their development needs suffer serious limitations. First, if there is one thing we all know, it is that managers, goal-oriented and driven as they are, often overdo it. However, our assessment tools fail to reflect when managers do too much of an otherwise good thing like driving for performance or showing compassion. Second, we all talk about striking balance between the short term and the long term or between taking charge and empowering. Yet most assessment tools don't capture imbalance. In this session, we'll help participants know and apply an innovative solution for redressing these oversights. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Assess what you know is important but have not built into your assessment systems: overkill and imbalance. Apply ?break-set? solutions designed for a coaching practice and a Fortune 50 company to manage the performance of their top 1,000 managers. Leverage personal strengths, one of the current trends in leadership development. Use assessment tools that capture overdoing and imbalance to shed new light on how to help leaders become more versatile and effective. Effect sustainable behavior change by working with internal drivers of performance problems.
