SESSION ABSTRACT: This session introduces and demonstrates a flexible framework that links goals, performance analysis, instructional design, evaluation, and ROI in one simple system. Participants will learn how to use the V-model, a systems development model adapted from the software industry, to ensure tight linkage between business goals, performance solutions, evaluation, and ROI. A case study will demonstrate how this innovative practice can be used to align needs assessment and evaluation, to communicate clearly with sponsors, and to leverage their needs for measurement and evaluation in making the strategic organizational shift from training as usual to performance improvement and results-based decision making. Participants will learn how this flexible and scalable system can be used to integrate their individual models and approaches. The case study and job aids will demonstrate how to apply the framework, with particular emphasis on ROI evaluation issues and solutions. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Describe the components of the V-model. Identify measures that link to business results and enable the determination of ROI. Apply the framework to performance interventions.
