Session #: 336-M109
Presenter(s): Jack Zenger, Tom Ruby Session Length: 1:15 hr Event: 2006 ASTD International Conference Date: May 7-10, 2006
If you were to ask 100 people in the learning and development profession for the biggest challenge they face, most would not talk about seeking new approaches to teaching or their search for dramatically different learning methods. In fact, most would talk about the need for better ways to improve the learning transfer process. In this session, you will examine the scenario most people in the profession routinely experience: Participants leave the learning event with the best of intentions. They've eagerly set goals to apply their new skills in the workplace. Then they get back to the job with all of its pressures and something happens. Good intentions evaporate. Commitments are deferred. Little, or sometimes nothing, of what the person learned is transferred onto the job. The Holy Grail is to find the solution to this problem. Why does it happen so routinely? What are the obstacles preventing successful implementations? What can be done to solve the problem? This session will show you how to apply an implementation assessment formula to analyze your learning and development initiatives and drive more successful implementations. You'll also see how the InterContinental Hotel Group applied the formula to improve the training implementations of their new-to-the-brand Holiday Inn general managers. Learning Objectives - Develop new approaches to learning transfer. Apply an implementation assessment formula to your learning and development initiatives to measure how well the training sticks. Use an implementation assessment formula to improve key performance indicators such as customer service and guest satisfaction.
