Presenter(s): Bruce Jacobs Session Length: 1:15 hr Event: 2006 ASTD International Conference Date: May 7-10, 2006
One reason for people's fears, mistakes, and conflicts in dealing with diversity is what the speaker of this session refers to as toxicity-the poisoning of our interactions by our histories and by the public culture that shapes our attitudes. In this session, he will explain four basic techniques for detoxifying everyday cultural interactions in order to build stronger, more human relationships with co-workers and clients. These relationships are needed to productively face the deepest issues of diversity. He will use anecdotes, practical examples, and humor to show how you can put these simple methods to work in your jobs and lives. The purpose of this session is to give you tools you truly can use. Learning Objectives - Apply four detox techniques in your workplace and client relationships. Interact productively and constructively with co-workers and clients when cultural differences, conflicts, or misunderstandings arise.
