Session #: 336-TU107
Presenter(s): Michelle Harrison, Tom McKinnon Session Length: 1:15 hr Event: 2006 ASTD International Conference Date: May 7-10, 2006
Large corporations, small family businesses, and even government agencies are all talking about it - what will happen in a few years when the baby boomers retire or transition to more flexible careers? In 2005, Novations Group, Inc. conducted a survey to find out what organizations are really doing about succession management. In this session, the speakers will cover the results of that survey and provide some practical strategies for creating a succession-management process that works. They'll discuss the difference between a succession plan and a replacement plan, what an effective succession-management process includes, and the roles played by the board of directors, CEO, HR, and others. Other topics will include succession-management criteria based on established corporate competencies and why women and minorities do not seem to make progress on the succession plan. Learning Objectives - Expand your focus beyond the top few levels of the organization. Link the succession plan to individual development plans. Create succession management criteria that are based on established corporate competencies.
