Session #: 336-TU208
Presenter(s): Chad Sain Session Length: 1:15 hr Event: 2006 ASTD International Conference Date: May 7-10, 2006
In this interactive session, you will explore the latest innovations in applied learning theory that are being created for leading organizations with critical training needs. Virtual Experience Immersive Learning Simulation (VEILS) programs tackle the difficult challenges that face adult learning, including those that determine the successful (or unsuccessful) application of technology to learning. Learners must satisfy cognitive (logic, reasoning) and affective (emotions, feelings) needs, if they are to increase engagement and retention and improve individual performance. Examine the VEILS approach, which uses leading-edge instructional design, behavioral science, gaming theory, filmmaking, and psychology to create immersive training simulations that cut training time while improving individual decision-making skills and performance. Audience members will be invited to participate in a live-action VEILS interactive movie experience, with topics such as customer service, leadership and/or safety, and they can make decisions that determine the storyline and outcome. Learning Objectives - Select innovative training methods that other leading organizations and institutions are implementing to tackle difficult decision-making issues. Apply techniques to help facilitators engage learners in a method far beyond traditional instruction, leading to higher retention rates and increased awareness and preparedness. Use technology to reach learners cognitively and emotionally and to create the most effective training experience.
