Presenter(s): W. Boyce Byerly Session Length: 1:15 hr Event: 2006 ASTD International Conference Date: May 7-10, 2006
In this session, the speaker will lay out a clear technique for conducting data-focused and accurate ROI analysis of corporate training. The approach he outlines will help you obtain and analyze your company's data in order to accurately assess the impact of your training and optimize future investments. Controlling for factors such as changes in the business environment over time, seniority, region, and job function not only provide more accurate answers, but also help optimize future training investments. The speaker will introduce and compare graphic and mathematical tools for analysis, share lessons learned from dozens of ROI assessments, and provide opportunities for you to interact and discuss potential projects within your organization. Topics include: designing a training program with ROI issues in mind, choosing and collecting the best metrics, and presenting results in financial terms to management. How this approach complements or compares to surveys, anecdotal evidence, the Kirkpatrick and Phillips models, trend line, Six Sigma, and others is carefully considered. Learning Objectives - Design learning programs with evaluation in mind. Select the right metric for the particular use. Value the metric appropriately.
