Session #: 336-TU304
Presenter(s): Eric Kaufman Session Length: 1:15 hr Event: 2006 ASTD International Conference Date: May 7-10, 2006
The missing topic in most leadership programs is fear. Senior leaders grapple with uncertainty on the one hand and accountability on the other. While employees look to leaders for assurance and guidance, leaders feel compelled to cover up their concerns about consistent uncertainty and ambiguity. Trainers love to teach quantifiable formulas for managing, yet leaders must learn the path to quelling their fear and generating real power the path of the hero. The hero's journey embraces obstacles and uncertainty, and builds an engaged community marching toward the prize. Resilience, courage, discipline, and perspective can be learned, and can be used to produce powerful and empowering results. As a participant in this session, you will learn to develop and apply a four-part process to enrich your training. You will deepen your program to develop leaders that are effective, efficient, and heroic; leaders whom people want to follow. Learning Objectives - Apply a four-step process for managing ambiguity and anxiety in your leadership. Develop a plan for addressing fear in your leadership training. Analyze and minimize the barriers to addressing uncertainty and fear in your leadership training.
