Session #: 337-M207
Presenter(s): Deborah Thomas Session Length: 1:15 hr. Event: 2007 ASTD International Conference & Expo Date: June 3-6, 2007
Informal learning at the water cooler designed as a component of blended learning can be a sneaky way to train. By designing spontaneous learning opportunities in offbeat places, you can induce learners to naturally engage and share information. In this session, you will analyze a variety of methods in decoy locations, such as intriguing activities strategically placed by the water cooler, board games in the employee lounge, hallway poster games that tie to CBT, and tabletop quizzes in the cafeteria. A fictitious training company leader at Attacktics Inc. will present informal learning research lecturettes with games to follow that allow participants to examine tricky locations and methods utilizing many tactics. Email messages disseminate provocative games that require participants to walk around the company to experience water cooler, lunchroom, and lounge lizard games. Everyone will get up and move.
